What are in-ceiling speakers?
In-ceiling speakers mount flush in the ceiling behind a grille, most with a paintable grille that disappears into the ceiling. They do two jobs: height channels for a Dolby Atmos home theater, and music around the house without speakers on show.
Atmos ceiling speakers
Height channels need sound aimed at the seats, not straight down. Atmos ceiling speakers here do it in three ways:
- An angled tweeter or baffle: Lyngdorf's D-5 IC has an angled, adjustable tweeter, and RBH's Visage VM-815L is an angled model.
- A swiveling tweeter: RBH's SI-815/R and SI-815/RL Signature models.
- Wide, controlled coverage: Perlisten's R3ic covers ±55° horizontally and ±30° vertically.
Dolby Atmos speaker locations
Height speakers usually go in pairs, in line with the front left and right speakers: one pair a little in front of the main seats for a .2 system, or a pair in front and a pair behind for a .4 system. Your processor's setup then tells it where each one is. For the full layouts, see surround sound speakers.
In-ceiling surround speakers
When the side walls are glass, doors or windows, the surrounds can go in the ceiling. Perlisten's R2ic is made for that flexibility: it works as a left, center, right, surround, height or wide speaker, so in-ceiling surround speakers match the rest of a Perlisten R system.

In-ceiling speakers for music: RBH Visage
RBH's Visage line puts music in kitchens, living rooms and hallways: the VM-815 with an 8-inch fiberglass woofer, rated for some damp locations, the VM-615 and VA-615DS at 6.5 inches, and the VA-600, sold as a pair. Most have paintable grilles.

In-ceiling speaker FAQs
Can I return a speaker? ODSY sells mainly on a final-sale basis, so check the fit with us before you order. Defective units and shipping errors are covered, as above. Opened items and preorder deposits can't be refunded. Read the full policy.
Do in-ceiling speakers need a backbox? Some bring their own: Lyngdorf's D-5 IC has a closed cabinet. Others, like Perlisten's R2ic, are infinite baffle designs that use the ceiling cavity. Ask us which suits your ceiling.
What are the drawbacks of ceiling speakers? Sound comes from above rather than from in front, so for stereo music a pair at ear height still images better; and once cut in, they can't be moved. Plan their positions with the room.
Is the price for one speaker or a pair? RBH titles say "Single" or "Pair". Where a title doesn't, ask us before you order.
