What are in-wall speakers?
In-wall speakers mount flush in the wall, behind a grille, so the room shows a flat panel rather than a cabinet. They take no floor space and leave nothing to knock over, which suits a living room or a dedicated theater with a screen wall. Fitting them means cutting the drywall and running cable inside the wall, so they are usually planned with the room. For speakers that hang on the wall instead, see on-wall speakers.
In-wall speakers with sealed enclosures
A speaker in a wall cavity sounds different depending on what is behind it. Many here bring their own sealed enclosure, so the bass is controlled and less sound leaks into the next room:
- Perlisten's R and S series mount 4 inches deep, with an aluminum extrusion rear enclosure.
- Lyngdorf's D-series (D-5, D-60, D-500) have closed cabinets.
- Procella's P6iWMk2 has a sealed 9-liter enclosure, and its P8iCW an integrated backbox.
In-wall center channel speaker options
- Horizontal centers: wide models to mount under or above a screen, from Perlisten's S7i-C, S5i C, R7i-C and R5i C, and Lyngdorf's D-60 C and D-500 Center.
- LCR models: one design for any front channel, from Perlisten's S4i and R4i LCRS, and RBH's Visage VM-616 and VM-414.
A center from the same family as the left and right speakers keeps voices sounding the same as they pan across the screen. Perlisten's R-series in-walls use the same DPC array of three 26mm silk dome tweeters as its other R-series speakers.
In-wall surround speakers
Perlisten's S4i and R4i are LCRS models: made for left, center, right or surround. Procella's P5iCW spreads its sound over an 80° circle, which covers a row of seats from the side wall, and goes in the wall or the ceiling.
High-end in-wall speakers
- Perlisten S series: a beryllium dome tweeter in a DPC array, and THX Dominus certification. The S7i is a 4-way design that reaches 119.7 dB peak.
- 3-way in-wall speakers: Perlisten's S5i C, S4i and R5i give the midrange its own drivers.
- Procella: in-walls built like its cinema speakers, with compression drivers on waveguides.
- Lyngdorf LS-1000: a line source, 16 midrange drivers and 32 soft dome tweeters in a stack of modules, made to work alone or with boundary woofers.

In-wall speaker FAQs
Can I return a speaker? ODSY sells mainly on a final-sale basis, so check the fit with us before you order. Defective units and shipping errors are covered, as above. Opened items and preorder deposits can't be refunded. Read the full policy.
In-wall vs ceiling speakers: which do I need? In-walls carry the front channels and surrounds, at ear height; in-ceilings carry height channels for Dolby Atmos, or background music. Many theaters use both. See in-ceiling speakers.
Do in-wall speakers need a receiver? Yes. They are passive speakers, driven by a receiver or by a processor and power amplifiers.
Is the price for one speaker or a pair? Most RBH and Procella titles say "Single". Where a title doesn't, ask us before you order.
